These 2 waterfalls can be partially
viewed in a drive-by, or for more leisurely viewing, park at the
fishing access and walk 0.2 mile to the first waterfall and another
0.2 mile to the second. In July, 2001 the bridge over Ninemile Creek
at the first waterfall was in the process of being replaced. The new
bridge will cover the bottom portion of the first waterfall making a
drive-by viewing more difficult. The town of Marcellus Falls began
in 1801 as a settlement called Union Village. From its very
beginning, it was a manufacturing settlement. Ninemile Creek once
sported 25 mill sites. In 1808 a crude sawmill was erected and a
gristmill was added in 1824. Today the second waterfall is behind
the Martisco Paper Company.
Drive-by Directions:
Driving south on Route 174, slow down as you enter Marcellus Falls.
Look to the right to see the first waterfall formed by a dam. The
cascades below the dam will be obscured under the bridge.
Continue south 0.2 mile and keep looking right. Just before Martisco
Paper Company you'll catch a glimpse of the second waterfall.
Trail Directions:
From the parking area, walk south along Route 174 (it has wide
shoulders).
From the bridge, look to the right to see the first waterfall formed
by a dam. Look down to view cascades under the bridge.
Continue south 0.2 mile and keep looking right. Just before Martisco
Paper Company you'll see the second waterfall.
